BV TECH at the University of Bari to meet the students of the master’s degree program in Computer Science
In the context of actions to disseminate the results of research activities carried out by BV TECH within the Program Contract “CyberSecurity and SOC Product Suite“, co-financed by the Apulia Region (Operation co-financed with the European Regional Development Fund Apulia POR Apulia 2014 – 2020 – Axis I – Specific Objective 1a – Action 1.1 RD), on 12/15/23, at the University of Bari “Aldo Moro” – Taranto campus, researchers from the Cyber Lab BV TECH of Grottaglie presented some preliminary results of the activities carried out to the students of the master’s degree course in Computer Science, Secure Software Engineering curriculum at the Faculty of Computer Science, using some of the prototypes under development.
The activity took place as part of the laboratory exercises planned for the Cryptography course taught by Professor Stefano Galantucci of the Intelligent Systems Laboratory and led by Professor Giuseppe Pirlo, whom we both thank for the kind invitation and opportunity.
The use of the Cyber Range
This was a complex exercise, carried out in a guided mode and aimed at the consolidation and experimental verification of the notions learned in the classroom related to the use of cryptographic techniques in the context of cybersecurity, based on the model of CTF (Capture The Flag) type competitions.
The activity was carried out on an exercise scenario created for educational needs using the BV TECH Cyber Range prototype, within which are some components of the BV TECH Cyber Suite such as NGFW, IDS and SIEM.
The availability of these tools allowed to alternate the analysis of both attack and defense tools and techniques making easier to show detailed illustration of good security practices based on the logic of detecting, filtering and correlating cybersecurity events to be implemented using the tools made available.
The activity was met with great interest from the students, who had the opportunity to combine theoretical cyber security training with hands-on experience in a controlled environment, experiencing both offensive and defensive activities.
