BV TECH: two seminars organized at Uniba

An opportunity to present research reports

03/06/2024

In the context of the dissemination of the research activities carried out by BV TECH within the Program Contract “CyberSecurity and SOC Product Suite“, co-funded by the Puglia Region (Operation co-financed with the European Regional Development Fund Puglia POR Puglia 2014 – 2020 – Axis I – Specific Objective 1a – Action 1.1 RD), the research group of the CyberLab BV TECH of Grottaglie held, on 28/5/2024, two seminars at the University of Bari “Aldo Moro” to illustrate the results of some of the research activities carried out.

The opportunity to present the research topics addressed within the project to the students of the master’s degree program in Computer Science – Security Engineering, at the Faculty of Computer Science, was provided by the kind invitation of Professors Maria Costabile, Giuseppe Desolda and Vincenzo Dentamaro, who selected the topics of greatest interest in the context of their respective courses and whom we thank for the opportunity.

The two seminars

The first seminar, given by colleagues Alessio Magrì and Pietro Spalluto, illustrated how to use online learning techniques based on unsupervised Machine Learning and clustering algorithms applied to the behavioral analysis of network users to automatically identify anomalous behavior attributable to credential theft situations (account hijacking), based on the research report “Account Hijacking Detection with KATANA, a K-means Approach for Targeted user behavior ANAlysis,” presented in April at the ITASEC ’24 conference.

The second seminar, given by our colleague Tony Delvecchio, outlined the results of an experimental research on an innovative way of training management to manage cyber risks, demonstrating the benefits of a collaborative approach implemented through a “serious gaming” application that takes advantage of the benefits offered by NUI interfaces, on the basis of the research report presented in February 2024 at the “10th International Conference on Information Systems Security and Privacy” – ICISSP ’24 and more recently also at the “3rd Annual CAMS Cybersecurity Innovation Symposium (CCIS),” organized by the CAMS (Cybersecurity at MIT Sloan) consortium, of which BV TECH is Founding Member, which was held in Cambridge, MA on May 15, 2024.

The contents of the two seminars were met with great interest from
both faculty and student participants.
