Presentation of the research report “GOLLUM” at the International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence 2025

24/12/2024

The research report “GOLLUM: Guided firewall cOnfiguration using Large LangUage Models”, prepared by colleagues Antonio Coscia, Antonio Maci and Roberto Lorusso of CyberLab di Grottaglie and Rutigliano, was accepted for presentation at the “17th International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence” (ICAART 2025), which will be held from 23 to 25 February 2025 in Porto (Portugal), and will subsequently be published in the conference proceedings.

A specific context of employment
The research presents the realization of a specialized conversational agent for the support of configuration activities in the field of security/networking devices (in this case for an NGFW), applying RAG techniques (Retrieval Augmented Generation) to LLM models of type “general purpose” for adaptation to the specific technical context of use.

The generative models used were evaluated against specific reference datasets, using an automatic pipeline of classification of results obtained based on multiple LLM through the definition of a specific methodology, Allowing GOLLUM to get correct answers for over 80% of the questions related to specific technical configurations of the apparatus, a result of absolute importance. The research was completely carried out by colleagues of CyberLab in Grottaglie and Rutigliano within the activities of the “Cybersecurity and SOC Product Suite” Programme, demonstrating the levels of research capacity, innovation and technological competence achieved.
